Pumpkin Carving 2011

What a FUN night! Halloween is my very favorite holiday, and you can't get through Halloween without a Jack-o-lantern. Every year, Troop 924 has done a group Pumpkin Carving, and its always one of my favorite meetings.

The troop had FULL attendance this week, and all the girls were super excited that they would get to carve and create their own Jack-o-lantern and take it home. They all did 90% of the work too. Some just needed help scraping the inside really clean.

Take a look at the pics, you can see they had fun.

Meeting #4 HIspanic Heritage Month- Salsa Dance Lesson

Well, last nights meeting went great!
My friend Juan Pablo, and his girlfriend Diana came to show our scouts how to do some latin dancing to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month runs Sept 15- Oct 15.

The girls had a blast. Even the girls that were shy in the beginning, participated with the group. It was a fun sight. Here are some photos from the night.

Meeting #3 Tree Hugging!

Tonight was another great night with the girls. We had another three new girls tonight, Nia, Anastasia, and Cheyenne. Also welcomed back Beverly to the group. We now have 15 wonderful girls and will have to close our troop to any more new girls this year.

Tonight we reviewed Nut Sales information and the girls chose their incentives for their fundraiser. We also talked about important upcoming events and dates to remember. We arranged our SPA BASKET to donate for Family Bingo Night. Then, we worked a little more with the outdoors.

We did three activities outside, and I will let the girls inform you on all the details. To recap, we worked with partners to use our senses to find trees in the woods. We also worked with a magnifying glass to find insects and bugs hidden in the bark of trees and then we made bark transfers onto paper. It was a blast.

We returned to the room for some snack and a game of "picnic".

I'd have to say, the highlight of my evening was a girl telling me.." I'm so happy to be here. I couldn't sleep last night. I was up until like 3am, because I was so excited to come today". Thanks. Its little things like that, that I really appreciate.

Meeting #2 Scavenger Hunt and Leaf Smudgings

Tonight we had a lot of fun. We had yet another new girl join our troop. Welcome shondra. Tonight we reviewed our upcoming events and projects and then took a tour around camp. The girls always love exploring camp. We had a scavenger hunt, and then returned to our meeting room to do a short craft project. Leaf smudging is always beautiful and easy.  Make sure to check our the info forms I sent home and to check your emails and this webpage frequently for updates.

Meeting #1

Here are some photos from last weeks meeting. This was the first meeting of the 2011-2012 year. We worked on planning activities for the year, and talking about how our troop is run. We also did a team building activity outside called Cheeto Toss. Check out the pictures. The girls seemed to mesh well together, and had a nice time. Look forward to seeing them again soon.

Careers Try It

This past meeting we worked straight from our Try It book, and completed Careers. We will also tie our Womens speaker night in March into our Career badge. We discussed each girls interests, and how they could choose a career that involves those interests. We discussed with adults what dreams they had as children, and if there were any careers that they had thought of that did not exist at the time, but do now. Mrs Carol, and Mrs Marissa helped out a lot. We also acted out charades of different job titles, and made up our own business cards.

Oh, and the girls have been the ones shooting our meeting photos lately, so you will see an added amount of silliness, which is okay with me. Our girls love having a good time together.

Thinking Day Posters, and Swaps

Thinking Day is an annual event run by council, and it celebrates that GS is not just in the United States. We celebrate as many countries as possible. Each troop chooses a country to represent, and when we all come together, we bring: food, drink, music, customs, to share. This year, troop 924 is representing Jamaica!
This night we were working on making some swaps to hand out with the colors of the Jamaican flag. And of course we end our meeting night with a small snack, and a game of "telephone".

Meeting: Making Poster for Thinking Day and Cookie Booths.

So, Cookie time is closing in. At this meeting, we worked on making table posters for Cookie Booths, and for Thinking Day. Presale cookie sales were under way, but booth sales will begin in March.
