Pumpkin Carving 2009

We had Pumpkin Patch night planned out in advance for the Presbyterian Church on Nebraska in Palm Harbor.. Meet there at 6:30, pick our pumpkins, and carve right there as we did last year.. The weather wasn't as easy to plan for. At about 6:20 the sky opened up. I was thankful that my mother, Karen offered to let us work at her house. She let up her garage for us, and we piled back in our cars and headed around the block to her home. Yes, we were soaked, and it was warm, and buggy, but it turned out to be a good time. The pumpkings came out great. Thanks to Karen S. for opening her home. Thanks to Karen D. for taking pics. Thanks to Marissa, Carly, Carol, Kelly for helping with the carving.

Registration Night

August 18, 2009 we will meet for a Registration Night. You can come anytime between 6:15pm-7:15pm. Please plan to stay for a few minutes, and fill out all forms for the year.

Girl Scouts has raised the yearly registration fee to $12. This will be for each girl.
Also, remember parents that we need you to register as well. Any parent who wishes to stay and help at meetings, or chaperone trips, needs to be registered, and background checked for safety of our girls. If you have trouble paying the $12 fee, I will also have financial assistance paperwork that you can fill out. They are normally pretty good about helping when needed. $24 for the year's registration is still so much cheaper than any after school activities out there right now.

Look forward to having you all back.
Returning we have: Chloe, Melanie, Erin, Alex, Jordan, Anna, Gabby.
Also, returning from our first year as a troop: Alicia.
That gives us 8 girls. I would like to see if we can get 2-4 more girls for the year. If you have a friend that wants to join, please bring them along on the 18th.

I will bring a craft to keep the girls busy while we are filling out the paperwork.

Please remember to frequently check this website. It gives you the opportunity to see pictures from all the fun events. Calendar is up to date, and always posted on the right of the scr

Clearwater Marine Aquarium

The girls are still spending their cookie money. This was another activity that we chosen, and voted on earlier in the year. Its nice to see each other during the summer, even if our weekly meetings are not currently running.
We spent the morning, and early afternoon at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. It was a very nice day. I learned a lot, and hope the girls did too. We were able to take our time with all the exhibits, and the animals. The dolphin show was great, and the kids were able to sit right up next to the water. We also were able to do some hands on with live, and dead sea creatures.
The girls made a great choice with this outing.

Me and My Guy Luau

Just some pictures from the Me and My Guy Luau from 5-9-09.
Looks like the girls had a great time!

Board Game Night.

Wednesday 27th of May, we celebrated our last Weds. night meeting with the girls for this active year. It was a nice night. I think the girls and their parents remembered how fun it is to play some simple board games. I hadn't seen those many smiles, and heard so many laughs in a while. UNO and Jenga were among the most popular. Check out the pictures. The girls also received their awards *( those that had come in the mail.. and I am sure the remainder will come the day after the meeting of course). Hope everyone has a nice summer, and I look forward to seeing you once in a while, to complete our activities such as MOSI, the Aquarium, and the ZOO.
Tori and Kaci crossed over to Juniors, and I will truly miss them next year. That is the sad part, is when they move up and out of your troop.

Brownies Bridging to Juniors

http://www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_central/ceremonies/ceremony_planner.pdf

The link above is a Ceremony Planner. Kaci, Tori, and myself will be using this to plan their end of year bridging ceremony. Also, is information on achievements needed to bridge over. Our group will greatly miss these girls. Great luck to you in Junior Scouts.

The following appeared on the On-Line Council Network for staff employees at Girl Scout councils, but seemed too useful to let it languish there!

Bridging to Junior Girl Scouts

Every Brownie Girl Scout receives her "wings" at the end of her Brownie Girl Scout years. Some girls also choose to earn their Bridge to Junior Girl Scouts rainbow patch. At the Bridging Ceremonies, each Brownie Girl Scout receives:

Brownie Wings
Bridge to Juniors patch
A membership star with a green disc

Note: The Girl Scout pin is usually awarded at a special "Investiture Ceremony" during the next troop/group year.

You will need to pick at least one activity from each of the six steps to Junior Girl Scouting to learn what is at the end of your bridging rainbow.

Find out about Junior Girl Scouting.

  • Ask a Junior Girl Scout or an adult who works with Junior Girl Scouts to tell you about Junior Girl Scouting.
  • Find out about the awards (badges and signs) for Junior Girl Scouts by looking at a Junior Girl Scout sash, vest, catalog picture, or the Awards, Badges and Other Insignia section on Girl Scout central at http://www.girlscouts.org/.
  • Look through the Junior Girl Scout Handbook and Girl Scout Badges and Signs. Find out about the badges, the signs, and the leadership pin. Look for differences between Brownie and Junior Girl Scout activities.
  • Take part in a special event put on by your community service unit, council, or a Junior Girl Scout troop for Brownie Girl Scouts bridging to the Junior Girl Scout level.
Do a Junior Girl Scout Activity

Do an activity from the Junior Girl Scout Handbook or Junior Girl Scout Badgebook.

  • Do an activity from a Junior Girl Scout Issues for Girl Scouts booklet, such as Connections, Read to Lead, Girls Are Great, or Media Know-How.
  • Do a Junior Girl Scout online science or technology activity from the "Awards, Badges and Other Insignia" section on Girl Scout central at http://www.girlscouts.org/

Do something with a Junior Girl Scout or a Junior Girl Scout troop or group.

  • Attend a meeting or event as the guest of a Junior Girl Scout troop or group.
  • Do a service project with Junior Girl Scouts.
  • Write to a Junior Girl Scout pen-pal (mail) or key pal (e-mail) who lives in your area or another state.

Share what you learn about Junior Girl Scouting with Brownie or Daisy Girl Scouts.

  • Make a poster or collage, or create a poster or flier on the computer, to show others what Junior Girl Scouts is all about.
  • Put on a skit or special program about a service project or activity that you did with a Junior Girl Scout.
  • Teach a song or game that you learned from a Junior Girl Scout.

Plan and do a summer Girl Scout activity. (If your Brownie Girl Scout troop or group has its bridging ceremony before summer, you can receive your Bridge to Junior Girl Scouts award before doing this activity. However, you should do the activity before your first Junior Girl Scout meeting in the fall.)

  • Go to a Girl Scout day or resident (sleep away) camp.
  • Plan and do an outdoor activity with other Girl Scouts and their families.
  • Have a cookout, swim or skate party, campfire, or stargazing activity with other Girl Scouts.
  • Participate in a GirlSports activity with other Girl Scouts.
  • Plan a get-acquainted activity for fall for your new Junior Girl Scout troop buddies.
  • Write a summer newsletter for your group.
  • Do a summer project with other Girl Scouts.

Help Plan your fly-up Ceremony

  • Learn a new opening or closing that you can use in your flying-up ceremony.
  • Write a poem, song, or skit about going from Brownie to Junior Girl Scouts that you can use in your ceremony.
  • Design and make invitations for the ceremony.
  • Make decorations that you can use at the ceremony

Build A Bear

This year the girls sold a lot of cookies! We sat down, and planned out which activities they would like to do, and went over how much money each activity would cost. Build a Bear Factory was one of the girls first choices, so away we went.

Great Job 924!
